The Power of Youth

October 15th, 2018

You ever have a moment where you finally see something for what it is?  Actually, you have been seeing it all this time, but you just now realize what it is that you have been seeing.  That sentence cannot be grammatically correct, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. What I have been seeing for the last few years and have just realized what I have actually been seeing is how the church generally views the youth of today.

We as a church look at the youth as unstable, incapable, immature, housing a a baby Holy Spirit Christians.  That's just not true of what the Lord says about you!

Youth are significant in the moving and establishing of the Kingdom of God here on earth! 1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”  It says right here to be the example for all believers in the way we live and are called to live our lives! Be the image of Jesus to all believers!  Do this as a youth, not as an adult, not as a person with a family, a full time job, and a mortgage.

I say that last bit because youth also don't help themselves in being treated as unable.  What I see youth do today is hold this belief over their life that they cannot be all that God has created them to be until they are much much older.  The thought of “oh i'll be like that when I have a family,” or “once i'm out of Junior High, High School, and/or College I'll be a mature Christian.” That's just a load of crap honestly.  Where in scripture does it say that you are incapable of doing great things now? Where in scripture does it say that the Holy Spirit can't use you in mighty and powerful ways because you are too young?  The Lord does not create people for less than mighty things, and the Lord also doesn't have an age limit! He wants you to be fully His and Him fully yours now! He wants you to walk in the fullness of what He has for you from the moment you say yes to His Son Jesus and become His child again!

Matthew 21:12-17 says, “ And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.’

“And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.  But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ they were indignant,  and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,

“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise?’

“And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.”

I love this passage because we see how the youth purely respond to the glory of God!  They worshipped him. They did not question him, they didn't doubt or fear, they simply worshipped.  All the adults did was question and get angry at Jesus. The youth here play a significant role, but if they disqualify themselves from this role, then all they become is all that everyone says about them and guess what...that's not very much.

All of this to say just a few things to you...

You are significant!

You are made to be the example for what a relationship with Jesus can be!

You are made to demonstrate the power of God in an extraordinary way!

Walk in boldness knowing that God has anointed you to do great and marvelous things in and through you!

Shalom,
