Who He Says You Are

September 7th, 2018

Hey y'all,

Over the last few weeks the Lord has made something very clear to me as we begin this new year, that He is calling us to establish the Kingdom of God in the walls of Sundown ISD.  That the building itself and everything within it would become a stronghold for the Kingdom of God! A stronghold that would exist forever, that if you come back to Sundown someday to raise your own family as so many people do, you could walk through those same halls and still feel the presence of God in that place!

Amen!

Your ability to establish the kingdom of Heaven is just waiting on you to be who God already says that you are!!

We see in Colossians 1:21-23, that we have been made “holy, and blameless, and above reproach before Him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard…”

You are these things. Period. If you believe on the name of Jesus!  That is not an option. If you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then you are what Paul tells us in Colossians.  So much of the issue today is that so many of us do not believe that to be true about ourselves! We don’t believe that it is possible for us to be those things that God says about us.  But, YOU ARE HOLY, YOU ARE BLAMELESS, YOU ARE FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE! When we begin to believe these things about ourselves, that are really just the tip of the iceberg in the discovery of who God has made each one of us individually to be, we begin to see that the Kingdom of God is established in any place that we are simply because we exist in that place!  There is power in you my friend.

This only gets more exciting.  Now we can look at passages like 1 Corinthians 12:14-20, where Paul is describing how the body of Christ is to work and operate, just like our fleshly bodies.  Being a human body nerd and loving to study it myself, I find this all very fascinating! For example, if you want your hand to move, does that movement originate in the hand?  Not even close, first your brain is sending a signal through your body so fast that you can’t really comprehend it. But it’s not sending a message solely to the hand, it’s sending it to your forearm where the main muscles originate for controlling things like each individual finger, pointing, making a fist, giving a high-five, or even spirit fingers! Hahaha that last one is more of a joke for those of you that will know what those are and if you don’t know then you just don’t know man.

All of this to say that we as the body get to unlock the potential of the person next to us!  We can unlock in them things from God that they never knew have been waiting deep in them! God has established us to be members one of another, releasing power in each other, that as we come together as the Body of Christ we establish life and freedom, shining into the darkness and reclaiming what it has taken!

So who is the source of light? John 1:1-5 starts with some pretty profound statements, but the one I want to focus on is v. 4, “In [Jesus] was life, and the life was the light of men.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.” We know that Jesus is the light of the world and we know that the enemy could not and cannot overcome the name of Jesus, but what does that have to do with us?

What allowed Jesus to operate in that identity?  What allowed him to operate in power and cast out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead, and speak directly to Satan with authority and then watch Satan run away like a scared dog with his tail between his legs?  The Holy Spirit. Jesus was baptized. God audibly spoke of who Jesus was, made all of Heaven open to him, and gave Jesus the Holy Spirit. After this, we see His ministry and these miracles begin. Jesus believed who God said He was and received all that God was giving him!

Well I got some info for ya, Jesus died so that you could believe on His name, receive His forgiveness, be made clean, and have access to all that Jesus himself had access to!  It says in Romans 8:15-17, “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as Sons, by whom we cry, Abba Father.  The Holy Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs --- HEIRS OF GOD and FELLOW HEIRS WITH CHRIST, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

You have been made with the ability to receive the Holy Spirit and operate in power.  This same Holy Spirit gave Jesus the ability to shine in the darkness, walk into any room, and change the very atmosphere of that room because He knew that as a Son of God, He was the authority in that place and nothing else!  If you believe in Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit that God desperately wants to give you, then this can and is meant to be true for you!

So what stops this from happening in our lives?

In Mark 12:31, Jesus gives us a commandment that is not meant to be a rule followed but something He meant to protect us for the life God created us for.  He says, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” So again, what stops us from being a light as Jesus was and establishing the Kingdom of God here on earth?  Well you may think my point is obvious at this point, but I promise it is not. If one of the main ways to establish the Kingdom of God here on earth is to love our neighbors as ourselves but we dont believe about ourselves what God says about us then how can we love our neighbors as ourselves?!  If we don’t believe the goodness that God speaks about us individually, we only believe the lies that we are unworthy, unwanted, not a son or daughter, not capable of greatness, useless, etc. If we believe these kinds of lies about ourselves then guess what we will begin to believe about our neighbor?  These same things! We see right here that if we don’t love who God has made us to be, then we can’t love our neighbor for who God has made them to be because this love start with us! Love your neighbor as yourself! Plain as day.

We must believe God when He says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, that we are His sons and daughters with whom He is well pleased (Matt. 3:17)!

If you believe on Jesus, you have been made clean, and God sees no wrong in you!  He only sees who He has made you to be, and it brings Him great joy to think of you!

Believe this about yourself and watch as you begin to bring it out in others.  You will begin to see who God has made those around you to be. Watch as the darkness flees when you enter a room because of the Light that shines in you.  Watch as the Kingdom of God is established everywhere you go. Watch as people around you, who are living in darkness, experience the truth of the Holy Spirit that dwells in you.  Watch as truth sets them free without you even saying a word. Just believe who God has called you to be, love that person, and watch the world around you transform!

I love you my brothers and sisters.

Shalom,
Parker
